Oh, What a Night!

I think that we may have surprised all comers at our evening in a Tuscan Temple hiding in plain sight right in the heart of Covent Garden.  The art of the spoken word and of operatic voices met perfect acoustics and an appreciative audience to create performances as moving as they were sublime.

What a night we had!  A full house, an intimate setting and our hearts were touched and our minds engaged by the artists who performed for us at this very special event.
"Bite Sized"

We began with a reading from Vala Publishers new book "Bite Sized".

David Robb and Fiona Hamilton drew from their own experience to bring this work to life.  Fiona as an accomplished performer and also as its author and the mother whose feelings about her daughter's anorexia are described in poetic form within it.

David, well known for his professional acting work, on this occasion also brought a personal element to this piece as it explores the mysteries and realities felt by anyone who has been touched by anorexia.  David has been raising awareness of anorexia in recent months, since losing his beloved wife, Briony McRoberts, who passed away last year.

Their readings were heartfelt, thoughtful and thought-provoking; a beautiful exploration of an unlovely illness, and of the many layers of bewilderment, love and hope that can characterise the experience of living alongside and caring for someone suffering from it.

Royal Opera House
Brindley Sherratt

And then came Brindley Sherratt and artists from the Jette Parker Young Artists programme at the Royal Opera House.  Brindley (bass), Kiandra Howarth (soprano), Luis Gomes (tenor) and Samuel Dale Johnson (baritone), accompanied by the hugely talented Caroline Jaya-Ratnam on piano, sang operatic arias and duets and some great favourites from amongst our greatest musicals in this beautiful seventeenth century 'Actors' Church', transforming it back into the temple for the sublime that Inigo Jones had originally designed it to be.

Their voices heavenly and rich, and the characters that they played inhabited so completely by them, and just a few feet away from their audience, gave us an experience like few are ever lucky enough to encounter at such close quarters.  Our audience rose to their feet and cheered and showed their appreciation for what was a unique and wonderful evening.

Thank you, to all of our stars.  It was a magical night, and our hearts were touched by your generosity and your talent; what an unforgettable event, and how we LOVED every moment of it!
